being able to move

one of the dangers of materialism and gathering a lot of items and objects to have at home is that it hinders you from being agile, responding to the changes in life. if something happens and there is a need to move to a new place, being bound by what we have, makes it difficult to do what we need to do. detachment becomes key.

could slow typing be good?

I am wondering if it could be beneficial to be a slow typer - otherwise there might be the risk of typing faster than the thought can be formulated, which can either cause total nonsense to come out, or, in the worst case, a not-so-well-thought-out statement. obviously there needs to be a balance as being too slow might cause you to lose your train of thought. is there perhaps an optimal words per minute to thought ratio? that would be interesting to investigate...

interesting point regarding SOPA

while reading about the SOPA(*) hearing, there was talk about hastening up the process, despite it perhaps not being entirely ready yet:
Over and over again, opponents of the bill repeated the phrase that at the very least, the bill “wasn’t ready for prime time,” because it hadn’t included the input of technical experts, let alone addressed their complaints or concerns, and that there was no reason to rush it through the House.

Still, Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA), pointed out another reason for urgency.

“The House feels like it’s time to get something done, before we enter into election season,” Johnsons said. “That’s a legitimate political concern.”

However, he added: “I’m troubled we are making a decision without adequate data,” and said “haste makes waste.”
isn't it insane that election season dictates what can and should be brought up and when?

scary insight

The average American watches four hours of television each day. That’s 28 hours per week. Which is almost like having another full-time job. No wonder it’s so tough for people to get things done.

taking a step back = a step forward?

The hardest thing in the world is to simplify your life. It’s so easy to make it complex. The solution for a lot of the world’s problems may be to turn around and take a forward step. You can’t just keep trying to make a flawed system work.

what's he doing?

that was my first reaction, watching eric lewis rocking the piano... but once you watch and listen, you'll be more and more amazed. he's playing evanescence's going under, but... in an entirely different way. listen and enjoy.

neighborhood action

this article in business week deals with the effects of long-term commuting - does more money and other benefits make you happier if you have to travel 2-3h a day? results seem to imply otherwise... check it out!

the beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

I usually don't do this kind of stuff, but I'm bored, so here goes nothing...

It's harder than it looks! Copy to your own note, erase my answers, enter yours, and tag ten people. Use the first letter of your name to answer each of the following questions. They have to be real - nothing made up! If the person before you had the same first initial, you must use different answers. You cannot use any word twice and you can't use your name for the boy/girl name question.

1. What is your name: borna
2. A four Letter Word: born (is that boring?)
3. A boy's Name: bob
4. A girl's Name: bernadette
5. An occupation: beatboxer
6. A color: blue
7. Something you'll wear: boxers
9. A food: biscuits
10. Something found in the bathroom: brush
11. A place: bed!
12. A reason for being late: (I wanna say bed, but that's not allowed, so...) books
13. Something you'd shout: BOOOOM! or BUUUUUFF!!! (can't make up my mind...)
14. A movie title: black adder (it's a series, but come on)
15. Something you drink: banana shake
16. A musical group: black eyed peas
17. An animal: bear
18. A street name: ben gurion
19. A type of car: bee em double-u
20. The title of a song: bumbro!

html: tables, divs and css

this is funny:

from giveupandusetables.com

this is also funny. should I use tables for layout?

go to shouldiusetablesforlayout.com and make sure to check out the source code!

here is another example, throwing out tables.

I've been working quite hard to try to figure it all out when I'm designing my new stuff. it's hard, but I'm learning, and it seems quite simple as long as the design isn't too massive. examples to come later, promise :)

it's been so long...

... I don't even know where to begin. a few days ago I passed a year of being here, and I can't be more amazed by how fast it has gone and how much has happened. I thought I wouldn't change much, but looking back at myself I just marvel and how different my life is now than it was when I got here; how differently I'm looking at things; and how much my goals and focus have changed in life.

my parents came and left, and it was a beautiful experience to have them here. a little bit strange, as I'd gone almost a year without them, and have pretty much gotten used to it... but it was really nice, most of the evenings I got to see them, had some lunches at times, and of course went to the Shrines and so on. having one's parents here really is a blessing :)

life has gotten quite busy over the last month or so... there's not so much free time available to just sit around and chill, which has become rather apparent looking at the infrequency of my blog posts. this also has led me to not have all that much time to post any useful stuff, but it's basically just random updates as to what's going on. I wish I could get back to the old days with that...

we'll see if I can be bothered continuing or if I'll just let this slowly fade out...
