tagxedo!

tag clouds are fun to create, especially when you can make them in different shapes and forms. tagxedo allows you to do exactly that. here's one for this blog:

make one you too!

I have a new favorite blog

alright, derek sivers seems to be an all around generally awesome guy: "Derek Sivers, bequeathed his company to a charitable trust for music education, and had them sell it. This agreement allows him to receive only 5% of the company's profits for living expenses, while the rest of the money (22 million) went into the trust."

I just read up a little bit on his blog today, but check out posts such as this about shutting up, and a recent one about not putting any speed limit to yourself. very interesting ideas and thoughts, and I just recommend it to everyone!

I love this blog

recently found this blog (also because it just started up), and has some really nice posts: Bahaiperspectives.com - with the title “If ye be aware of a certain truth, if ye possess a jewel, of which others are deprived, share it with them in a language of utmost kindliness and goodwill.”

and believe me, they have many jewels in there! go read!

will I make it?

9,948 in total so far, with 4 days to go. 10k by the 15th? not impossible... :)

no more questions?

it seems my faq was so exhaustive that there's nothing more to ask? :)

if you have anything, post a comment and I'll respond in a new post.

10k by next month?

according to clustrmaps' info, these are my stats: Running total of visits to the above URL since 15 Feb 2007: 7,618:

can I make it up to 10k by feb 15th? I don't know, my average over these 11 months has been ~23 visitors per day, although as of recently it's been up to about 40-50 a day (who are you people reading this?). I'm going to need ~80 visits a day to make it, so I'm quite doubtful actually...

maybe I'll update you on my project if I manage... ;)

diversity

a quick reflection on the diversity of the Baha'i Faith: serving here in the Baha'i World Centre means daily getting exposed to and interacting with people from a countless of countries, ethnic and cultural backgrounds. just the other day, sitting in a taxi on our way to football, the four of us were from canada, singapore, vanuatu and sweden - the driver obviously a local israeli. in just about 160 years, the Faith has spread literally all over the world:

The Bahá'í Faith is an independent monotheistic religion with a worldwide population of some 5 million people. They come from more than 2,000 different tribal, racial, and ethnic groups and live in 235 countries and dependent territories. The Britannica Book of the Year (1992) referred to the Bahá'í Faith as the second-most geographically widespread religion in the world, after Christianity. (source)

if you remember this post, about the 16 countries in our 29-person big group (this time they are 23 from 12 countries), you'll realize that almost every country you can think of is represented here. I wish I knew exactly how many countries we had represented here, but I'd say we're easily from at least 70-80 different countries here. I think it's an amazing feat, and to also see everyone so united and full of love, despite the differences among us. it really gives hope for the future.

in other, quite unrelated, news, I had to suffer from some food experimenting the other day. pouring up cereal and only afterwards noticing that we were out of milk, I was left wondering what to do. after some dividing, I decided to try orange juice instead.
I won't do it again. it wasn't absolutely horrible, but it sorta left a kind of taste that you didn't expect. asked a couple of people here in the office, and they said they'd go for water. maybe I'll do that next time, but it feels kinda boring. hopefully there won't be a next time though.

I got challenged to list my seven wishes and challenge seven other bloggers to do it as well. I don't know what to think of it... I can only be content with what I have here, my experiences and challenges. as Bahá'u'lláh says: "Be generous in prosperity, and thankful in adversity" I think I will just try to live by that. I'm going to do my best in all I do, and hope for the best. whatever happens to me is in God's hands:

O thou who art turning thy face towards God! Close thine eyes to all things else, and open them to the realm of the All-Glorious. Ask whatsoever thou wishest of Him alone; seek whatsoever thou seekest from Him alone. With a look He granteth a hundred thousand hopes, with a glance He healeth a hundred thousand incurable ills, with a nod He layeth balm on every wound, with a glimpse He freeth the hearts from the shackles of grief. He doeth as He doeth, and what recourse have we? He carrieth out His Will, He ordaineth what He pleaseth. Then better for thee to bow down thy head in submission, and put thy trust in the All-Merciful Lord.

custom search engine

google lets you create your own search engine, which searches only sites you specify. I created one for my site, just to see how it works. (there's already one up in the navbar, so this one is kinda redundant.) it's an interesting feature to have for other sites.

go to http://google.com/coop/cse/ and create your own :)

I have visitors from all continents of the world, obviously mostly from europe/us, but I have a few from some african countries, and also a couple from south america. whoever is on hawaii, puerto rico or the canary islands reading this blog should really go out to the beach instead ;)

here's the map (which you, together with the statistics, can see down to the right):

ads? am I a sellout?

so I just added some ads from google to my page, small one at the top and a bigger one down right. is it annoying? not really. is it making me any money? not really. I'm not forcing you to click the ads, and I'm not expecting anyone to do it either. but I'm thinking why not try to make a little money while I am doing something I enjoy? I'll be blogging for quite some time, but don't really think this will generate any sort of income. but one cent here, two cents there, and a dollar here might in the end be at least a little bit. we'll see how it goes :)

the hostess!

no mention of my home can be complete without the mention of my dear sister/cousin rebecca. her blog can be found here. I'm renting the apartment from her, and she made a more than excellent job in preparing it for me and my arrival. eternal thanks to you rebecca! <3

(no, she's not framed.)

starting up a brand new blog!

okay, perhaps not so new, as I'll be combining a few of the things I've been blogging about (work/football), but will also add a few new things. I'll even try to be interesting once in a while, but that's not a promise!

here is the idea I was having with the help of Google Earth, a tour of my day. download Google Earth, click my link, and fly and see where I have been. maybe I'll update every day, unless nothing at all happens, we'll see...

let the blogging restart! again!

I think I have an idea...

Google Earth just gave me an idea... I haven't seen anyone else do it, so I might be first. or at least I haven't copied the idea from anyone... give me a few days and I'll see what I can come up with.
